Fellowship and Scholarship Opportunities
We are committed to workforce training and professional development in STEM fields, please contact us if you are interested in working with us through the following opportunities.
Undergradaute students:
- Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides various opportunities and funding to UCI undergraduate students from all disciplines in support of research or creative activities under the guidance of UCI faculty members. We encourage interested students to work with us through UROP opportunities.
- UCI Samueli School of Engineering Merit Based Scholarships are available for undergraduate students.
- Microscopy Society of America (MSA) Annual Undergraduate Research Scholarship Program offers opportunities to foster the educational and research potential of full-time undergraduate students interested in pursuing microscopy as a career or major research tool. The He Lab has been successful in supporting students getting this award in the past – contact us if you are interested!
- The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy University Nuclear Leadership Program (UNLP) Undergraduate Scholarship provides $10,000 awards to students attending four-year colleges/universities who are pursuing study in science and engineering disciplines related to nuclear energy.
Graduate students:
- UCI Graduate Fellowships offers a variety of options in both PhD and Master’s programs to support graduate education at UCI. Opportunities may include Internal Fellowships, Diversity Fellowships, Extramural Fellowships, International Fellowships, and Recruitment Fellowships. Fellowships for Graduate Students in Samueli School of Engineering can be found here.
- National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) is to ensure the quality, vitality, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. GRFP seeks to broaden participation in science and engineering of underrepresented groups, including women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and veterans.
- The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science Graduate Student Research (DOE SCGSR) program aims to prepare graduate students for STEM careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission, by providing graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories. The SCGSR program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host DOE laboratory/facility in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist within a defined award period.
- The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy University Nuclear Leadership Program (UNLP) Graduate Fellowship provides $169,000 over three years to support graduate research and supports a summer internship at a DOE national laboratory or approved facility.
- GEM Fellowship Program offers MS and Ph.D. level students an outstanding opportunity and access to dozens of the top Engineering and Science firms and Universities in the nation.
Postdoctoral reseachers:
- The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP) was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships, professional development and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity at UC.
- The eFellows program places early-career PhDs in engineering fields in university research postdoctoral fellowships. In addition to hands-on academic research with a faculty advisor, each fellowship cohort will participate in professional development and mentoring activities designed to prepare them for future research careers.
